ChefSuite, who took over Kitchen United, is now (somewhat) open with stalwart Hawaiian Bros and newcomers Panang Future and DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks. I say “somewhat” because the Suite’s ordering website is still in “coming soon” mode (but you can order via the mentioned kitchens’ webpages or through delivery services). Now fully open is An Nyeong K-Tofu & BBQ, and it is already a hard get (see review this issue).
Big O’s Pit BBQ at 4727 Burnet is under new management (but within the same family). The Q will remain the same but under a new name, Bird Dog Pit BBQ. Snarf’s Sandwiches (near Tacodeli) and The Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen (Anderson across MoPac) have “now hiring” signs up, so expect them to swing wide over the next month or so. The wine bar is stylin’ with a dark, jutty, sophisticated vibe. Wünder Pig‘s plan for 1521 West Anderson Lane revealed itself with a new sign: Black Gold Craft Meats & Cocktails.
I saw a sign at the Marq on Burnet (which also houses JewBoy Sub Shop) declaring the impending arrival of Dog Day Coffee (if you think the neighborhood is going to the dogs, you may be right with Dog Day Coffee, Bird Dog Pit BBQ, and Yard Bar marking territory in our midst [where’s dat Cat Nap Coffee I’ve been craving?]). The sign was gone on a recent pass, but social media activity suggests that this nitro coffee slinger with a location at 8440 Burnet is coming soon.
Foxtrot suddenly closed all of its locations after burning through their venture capital funding. They sold all of their assets, down to the last bag of froofroo tater chips, in a mid-May firesale via Microsoft Teams. Trudy’s closed its South Star location and, rumor has it, sold its original location near campus, leaving the North Star on Burnet the last remaining location. The owners still profess plans to go statewide and national with their Trudys vibe, but it sure don’t seem them enchiladas hunt.
Absolutely nothing is happening at the upcoming H-Mart at 5222 Burnet, so I’m assuming they remain in permitting hell. The Bride (who joined me on my comida-cruise this issue) noted that parking is going to be like permitting at the location. Toastique and Ling Wu, both at The Grove, are still under construction.
