I am a hydrogeologist who has worked almost 30 years in Texas. I've worked at the Bureau of Economic Geology and the Texas Water Development Board and presently work at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. In addition to aquifers, I love history and the intersection of science and policy. I also love cats and tacos.

casa de luz

As my engineer bride says, non-judgmentally, "They believe in The Woo," the magical properties of the natural and supernatural world. Woo or not, this is definitely a place to get a delicious, healthy, and cleansing meal. All meals are plant-based, organic, and gluten-free.

ramen tatsu-ya

Dirt cheap ramen changed my life. If not for those 10-cent cellophane bags of freeze-dried noodles and bits of what-in-the-hell, I would have dropped out of college.

k is for kemuri tatsu-ya

After forever changing Austin's perception of ramen, Tatsu Aikawa and Takuya “Tako” Matsumoto turned their talents toward fusing the Japanese cuisine of their heritage with the Texas barbecue of their youth.

red pepper szechuan restaurant [closed]

The pleasant surprise was the stir fried green beans with tofu perfectly cooked like thick-cut French fries: crispy-crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

dai due

Dai Due is a carnivore’s delight, and the restaurant includes a butcher’s shop, so leave the vegans at home.

high 5

We don’t have kids, but if we did, we’d probably be here weekly. And given the depth of the menu, we need to come back during prime evening hours to check out the other bites.
