I'm not sure what Charlie is nervous about, but you don't have to be nervous when you visit. You're guaranteed to get good gol-dang bagel.

boiler nine [closed]

The space is glorious: towering stacks washed in colored light, pipes galore, and an authentic steam-punk aesthetic. Thankfully, Boiler 9 doesn't use its fantastic location as an excuse to serve sub-par sustenance.

flyrite

Based on the gaggles of people flocking to their shop, our fledgling Flyrite has quickly taken wing. And although Flyrite has a ways to go to reach the top of the chicken sandwich pecking order, count me in as one of the roosters crossing the road to egg them on!

cenote

Cenote has your standard comfy, local-coffee-house friendly vibe. The overheads hummed with East Austin cool including Patti Smith and Sleater-Kinney.

ranch 616

At the end of a long, dusty day, as you eye the last glimmers of the sun setting behind the bank-of-whatever building, ear the wistful howls of MoPac, and recall a simpler but distant time with lower property taxes and rent, just remember that its a short drive to the Ranch, a short trip to Redemption.

these are woodfired tacos (mesquite; you know it when you walk in) inspired by Monterrey street food, and they are unbelievably good

ichi-umi (nee haru ramen & kushiyaki)

...it takes big takoyakis to open up a ramen joint in the sumo court of Ramen Tatsu-Ya, but Haru delivers.
