This town is taco crazy, and for good reason: there are a lot of crazy-good tacos in this town! One of the best-known and appropriately-applauded locales is Veracruz All Natural. Started by two sisters, Reyna and Maritza Vazquez from Veracruz, Mexico, Veracruz All Natural is a classic trailers-to-treasures story. After a short-lived, failed trailer in 2006, Reyna and Maritza started Veracruz All Natural in 2008 as a smoothie dispensary. Its success was not guaranteed with the undocumented sisters working multiple jobs and sleeping on the trailer’s floor to give it a chance of success. Once the sisters introduced their taco recipes, the business took off with two trailers, three brick-and-mortars, and 30 employees today (the sisters are now documented as well!).
The tacos are visual and culinary works of art with savory ingredients piled atop slightly puffy, housemade tortillas (get a fork!). Reyna worked at her mom’s restaurant in Veracruz and chef’d up mom’s recipes with fresh and organic (hence all natural) ingredients. The Migas Originales is the taco that put them on Austin’s culinary map, receiving national and international accolades, but all of the tacos are first rate and worth a try.
